Hveragerði Hot River

Pictures at at the bottom...

Karine and Matt were meant to meet up with Tanja and I for kaffi one night, but for various reasons that didn't happen, so they made it up to us by inviting us along with them to Reykjadalur, (smokey valley) a hot river to swim in up from Hveragerði.

What a treat! The weather wasn't very promising on our way there, so we went onto selfoss and had some cake and coffee, and the weather magically cleared up a bit for us. Drove out into the hills for a while, and then struck off on a loose path across the tussocks and mud, in a good blowing mist.

But after a km or two, you reach the valley rim, and a sign warning of hot water, and you descend into a lucious green valley, with a rather idyllic hot creek flowing down it. We had a lovely afternoon sitting in the creek, chatting and watching patches of blue sky come and go overhead. We even had a tiny rainbow entirely within our little valley.

And of course, not another soul in sight. Ahh iceland.
