Bláfjall, 25min drive from home, is the closest ski resort to town. I'd been sitting at work for a couple of months now, watching the webcams and waiting for it to finally get enough snow to open. Finally it did, but I had prior plans for the evening, (Went and saw Domino at the movies instead) so I missed the first night. But I drove out there by myself the next night, determined to finally have a go on these new ski's I'd bought.
Turns out they weren't actually open to the public that night, they were just open for the ski team, but as they were closing in half an hour anyway, they told me to just go out and have some fun, free of charge. Thanks guys! (I even had to borrow poles from them, I'd forgotten mine!)
So there I am, haven't skiied in four years, having spent the intervening years on a snowboard, by myself, in front of the ski team, nervous as hell. Fortunately I didn't look completely stupid, and I managed to get down a few runs without falling over even. Pretty shaky though, it's definitely been a while :) I'm heading up tomorrow to get my season pass. Going to be getting some exercise and outdoor action again. Hooray for snow!
