Treptower Park with Tanja and Tanja

Pictures are at the bottom...

So, Berlin somehow ends up with two whole galleries? How did that happen? Was hamburg so dull? Is berlin really where it's at? Or did I just have my camera with me, feel like using it, and actually be deliberately going to photogenic places?

Tanja and I took off one thursday to visit the other Tanja in Berlin. We had all sorts of adventures with one way streets, giant windmills attempting to reach onto the road and cut us up into little pieces, and trying to find the right door to get into Möbel Olfe.

On Burkhardt's recommendation, we headed to Treptower Park, just after we arrived, and just as the sun was setting. This is a great big Soviet memorial, in old east berlin. Really cool. It's quite surreal to see big modern war scenes carved onto blocks in such an old fashioned style. Rather incongruous, it was like I was looking at racing cars and computers on panels in an egyptian pyramid.

And protecting it all, a massive statue of a charming young man, protecting all from evil, and cutting down the nazis with his enormous sword.

After the aforementioned adventures with the doors, and meeting up with those old veterans of the iceland scene, Norman and Henning, Tanja took us for some culture, sitting on top of a trapdoor, protecting the beer supplies, in an art gallery masquerading as a bar.

Little did we know that the next day we would be forced to endure more beautiful things, masquerading as an art gallery, because they thought that was cooler.
