Burn baby burn - Pravda kicks off summer by burning to the ground

Pictures are at the bottom...

I went home over lunch, getting the internet turned back on. Coming back up the street to work, I noticed a bit of a crowd. Tomorrow's the holiday, not today I thought. Getting closer, I saw smoke leaking out of the eaves of Pravda, and while I stood, the first fire truck pulled up. First people on the scene were a bunch of girls dressed up in their school leaving outfits. Drinking beer and laughing. No-one really seemed to be too upset.

I headed up to the office to take some pictures from up there, but that wasn't to last long. Our entire building was evacuated. What a way to start the weekend! No-one was really ready to go home just yet, so we all stood around for a while, watching the show, before most of us got too cold and headed in for coffee and beers.

I walked home and got another lens, and came back with Lee, who'd walked up for the show. Me, and the rest of town who could. It was kinda interesting watching the firemen. The fire never really seemed out of control, but it never really seemed to be going out either. It started around 2, and it was still burning at 5:30.

Final casualties, Pravda, gutted. The old hotdog stand/tourist booking desk, gutted. Kebab husiĆ°, gutted, or at leasts heavily smoke damaged, the Opera bar, gutted, and finally, the only real loss, Cafe Rosenberg, which looks to be severely smoke damaged, but not burnt much. No-one was hurt, it seemed to start off slowly enough, and really, these were some of the least pleasant places in town. It now of course remains to be seen what rises from the ashes.
