Aurora and bonfires while cruising Akranes

Pictures are at the bottom...

For something completely different, Rakel proposed an evening in Akranes. A night of celtic music, on a friday night.

The sheer randomness of it appealed to me, so a posse was formed. (It wasn't entirely random, Rakel's been doing scottish dancing with some other ex pats in reykjavik every week) Rakel, Kópur and I drove out under a clear starry night, looking for action on the other side of the bay.

The celtic music night was not exactly what I'd hoped for, it was a bunch of middle aged locals quietly and politely listening, and a few musicians playing a few quiet songs. I was sort of expecting a little bit more liveliness, and perhaps even some dancing. We ended up ditching the party and cruising akranes in the mighty micra.

We cruised, we parked, we gossipped and listened to music. Eventually, having driven just about every street, and not having any desire to keep driving the same loop, nor to loiter at the petrol station, we headed back to town. There was a birthday party going on, and it was indeed full of a lot more life than Akranes.

On the way back, we (I) stopped for a few photos of the clear night.
