After a snowstorm in reykjavik the week before, Steinar at work was getting itchy to go away skiing. So a trip was planned, and I joined him and 5 of his friends for opening day at Tindastóll, a small resort in the north, about 3.5 hours drive away.
I was on borrowed snowboard gear, and they were "Team Ábær Telemark".
A bit of culture shock, after coming from big US resorts, but still a great time. A lift ticket only costs 800kr, (using beer currency, a lift ticket in the states would cost 5500kr) the lifty/groomer/owner started the lift for us on sunday when we arrived, there's a sandwich grill in the lodge for cooking your own sandwhiches.
Lots of fun getting out on the snow again. I missed last season being back in Australia.
Oh, and of course, a little cabin with a hot pot, beer and aurora, what more could you ask from a weekend skiing?
