A very merry christmas.
Mike and Anastassia came to visit for christmas. After 5 hours of flight delays, I drove diagonnally down the highway (in the wind) to pick them up. We've only had two days so far, and we've had high winds, lashing rain, bright clear skies, sunsets, and everything in between. A lovely afternoon and evening shopping on Þorlaksmessa (the 23rd) and then delivering christmas presents sunday afternoon.
For a combined christmas dinner at home, we decided to cook some decidedly icelandic hamborgahryggur, which is a smoked pork back, and some kangaroo fillets. I came across kangaroo loin fillets in hagkaup last year, and was amazed at the quality and price. Quite reasonable. And so tasty. Both meats are delicious. We stuffed ourselves full, and then played an icelandic sheep card game (top trumps apparrently) and watched some of the Planet Earth documentary series that Mike and Anastassia had brought with them. Some absolutely stunning footage. Then time to catch up on sleep. Christmas Day on the golden circle!
