Fireworks are available in Iceland from the 26th to the 31st of December. New Years eve is the big fireworks night, but of course, they start getting let off straight away on the 26th, and people hold a few leftovers through janurary, kids mostly.
Traditionally, this is the big, and only, fundraising activity of the volunteer rescue organisations, but recently some private businesses have started selling them as well. The private groups are a bit cheaper, but I consider it blasphemous to deny the rescue crews their fundraising. This year I spent 16800 kr, (about 300 AUD, or 130£) More than I really planned on, but it's a good cause. Also, it's damn fun!
