Another sunny day, another day to get some exercise. I headed out to Trölladyngja, allegedly a 40min walk up a beautiful mountain, just down the road on the way to the airport.
It was a lovely 40min walk up a beautiful mountain, with great views over to Keilir across the valley, and a very out of the way feel, despite there being about 5 other cars. (I didn't see anyone where I walked)
I think it's the 40min drive, across some very rough corrugated lava fields, that adds to the feeling of isolation. Hitting the grassy field, awash in sunflowers when you break out of the lava is truly wonderful. Being able to see the aluminium smelter at Straumsvík, and an under construction hot water plan in the hills behind Trölladyngja seemed to just fade away. A very pleasant walk, and very very accessible from Reykjavik.
