Roadside attractions at night - the road to the north

Pictures are at the bottom...

I drove up to Árskogarsandur the other day to vist Bruggsmiðjan, the brewery that makes Kaldi. It was a very nice tour, but that's a different story, that may never see the light of day on these pages.

I was running late, so I didn't get to stop at all on the drive up. Which was a pity, as it was a clear blue winter day, about -4C, and the sights were fabulous. I really should have found a way to make the time to stop and take pictures of frosted grasses in streams, of sheep grazing on snowy grass in low low winter sun, of broken ice flowing down rivers, and piling up.

But I didn't. I got to Árskogarsandur, and drank some beer, and had a look around the facilities. Afterwards, I headed up to Dalvik to get something to it, and now, with no time constraints, I got time to stop. I stopped before Dalvik to take some pictures of the Aurora and the almost full moon.

Driving home I stopped on the road up to Öxnadalur to take pictures of the mountains there. I stopped at Borgarnes to take pictures of the ice in the fjord. Unfortunately, temperatures had risen, and were continuing to rise, to there wasn't so much ice this time round, and with the wind whipping at your cheeks, it was also damn cold to be outside taking pictures.

Arriving home after 9 hours in a car with hot air blowing the whole time, I was exhausted and fell into a deep sleep, waking up the most refreshed I'd been in a while.
