Organ, newest live music venue in town, has been doing a great job having lots of bands, lots of nights. They're stated mission is, "live music, wednesday through saturday, every week" They've been having a few missing wednesdays, but it's still a great great addition to the scene. It's also a really nice venue. It's beautifully done inside, it's nicely laid out, and hey! it's got lots of bands!

Tonight was a saving iceland show. Saving iceland are in general misguided in their execution (think sea shepherd and greenpeace) but their hearts are in the right place, and I'm still very glad that they're around, so I'm not about to boycott their events or anything. I just wish they'd focus on the money, try and show people that these projects are simply bad business, instead of ranting about environmental destruction. There is environmental impacts, of course, but most people really don't care. But when you can meet someone who seriously believes that getting 20% return on the nations money over 12 years is a "great deal for üs!" there's easier ways of getting people to care.

Still, the show was good! Not a lot of people, and because it's a saving iceland gig, the acts, and the fans, were very diverse. hip hop, folk, rap, punk, rock. I got to see Svavar, who my sister had been hanging out with on his australian tour, who I quite enjoyed. I'd tracked down some songs online after Helen raved about him, but hadn't been real thrilled. Too folksy for me :) He put on a great show though, lots of talking, joking, stories, stories set to music, and drinking.

Dys were excellent, the first proper punk show I'd seen in iceland. (Somehow just never ended up at the right shows, found out too late, couldn't talk anyone else into going, that sort of lame excuse) This Dys are not to be confused with the old Boston punk band from the 80s however. They're still very good. People actually danced!

Jan Mayen, Jan Mayen. The smallest lead singer with the biggest guitar in all of iceland. These guys are solid, polished, and have some great songs, yet somehow it just never quite grabs me the way I want it to. About here I had a bit of a run in with someone who hadn't actually been aware that this was a saving iceland gig, and was now feeling rather pissed off (as I said, saving iceland has not built a great name for itself) and tried to tell everyone that it was great business! (He hadn't actually beeeen to Egilsstaðir recently though)
