Reykjavik had had a couple of days of spectacular auroral displays, particularly out of town, with some clouds around, but for the next night, the forecast was for clear and calm, and the city decided to turn off all the lights for a couple of hours.
It was wonderful. I'd never seen so many people out on the streets in the suburbs (as much of a suburb as vesturbær is) and I'd never heard of so many icelanders genuinely excited about them. You could hear people's oohs and ahhs. It was a wonderfully social evening around town. I didn't really head out to take pictures, but to meet some people and watch them, but took a couple at least. I know there were plenty of more "serious" photographers out that night.
